Students Enjoy and Old Fashioned School Day

The Grades 4 and 5 classes experienced an old fashioned school day by participating in our 1800s Day.  They arrived at school dressed in pioneer fashion, with plaid shirts, suspenders, lunch pails, aprons, and braided hair.  It looked as if our school had gone back in time about 150 years!

Pledging Allegiance to the Union Jack, which was the flag used in the 1800s classroom.

Today our spelling test was done as a spelling bee.

Slouching was not permitted!   Look at the exemplary posture.

Next on the agenda was Arithmetic

Students always stood up to ask and answer questions.

Students also tried their hand at cursive writing using a quill pen and ink.

At lunch time we carried our lunch pails outside and enjoyed the beautiful spring weather.

We played a variety of pioneer games that the students had previously researched.  Here a game of Hoops and Graces is being played.

Hoop Roll is more challenging than it looks!

The object of Poor Doggie, is to try not to laugh!

Whose Got the Button?

Making Butter

Of course we had to try a little butter on some homemade biscuits.

Grades 4 & 5 Clay Projects

Take a look at the clay projects created by the Grade 5 class.  These creations were inspired by ancient castle towers.

The clay leaves were created at our student-led conference.  Students and their parents worked together to make these decorative leaves.  They are also functional as spoon rests!
